Job Title: Category Buyer (Metal Components) Salary: £57,700 to £72,000 (based on skills demonstrated) Contract : Full time & permanent Location: Desford, Leicestershire The Opportunity As a Category Buyer for metal components, you will support the development and delivery of category strategies that maximise value across quality, cost, logistics, development, and supplier performance.
Working closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders, you will play a key role in strengthening the supply network, managing risk, and driving sustainable commercial outcomes. As a Category Buyer , you are accountable for, but not limited to: Supporting the delivery of category strategies, contributing insights and market knowledge to drive value and continuous improvement.
Leading or supporting sourcing activities, including supplier selection, negotiations, and contract implementation. Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and align procurement activity.
Managing supplier performance, addressing issues promptly and working collaboratively to drive improvements. Ensuring continuity of supply through proactive risk management and supplier engagement. Maintaining accurate procurement documentation and ensuring compliance with internal processes and policies.

What You Can Demonstrate: Level Working Knowledge Effective Communications: Communicates clearly and confidently with suppliers and internal stakeholders, adapting messaging to the audience to support negotiation, alignment, and informed decision-making.
Interpersonal Relationships: Builds strong working relationships across functions and with external partners, influencing outcomes, managing differing priorities, and maintaining credibility and trust. Strategic Sourcing: Applies strategic sourcing principles across negotiations, contracting, and supplier selection, supporting category strategy delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.
Supplier Relationship Management : Develops and maintains effective supplier relationships, addressing performance issues, resolving challenges, and supporting long-term partnerships and continuity of supply. What You May Have: Demonstrates an understanding of metal component supply and manufacturing to support effective sourcing decisions and risk management.
Applies sound commercial judgement in negotiations and supplier decisions, balancing cost, quality, and risk. Works confidently across teams and geographies to align supplier capability with business and production requirements. Uses cost, market, and performance data to inform decisions and drive continuous improvement.
