About The Role

In this role, you’ll apply your strategic and analytical skills supporting our Premium Products & Experiences (PPX) team, focusing on the growing Capital One Travel line of business. You’ll be a key player advising on the team’s mission to develop an industry-leading travel service offering, with benefits and features that both are top-notch and deliver differentiated value to our customers.

You’ll partner with the Travel business on strategy and brainstorming, learn about and deeply understand the business team’s intent, investigate and assess the legal, regulatory, contractual and business risks, and advise on third party contracts and relationships, business initiatives and customer experiences.

You’ll also have the opportunity to learn and partner with a bright, collaborative and dynamic group of attorneys who support the broader Premium Products and Experiences business line, as well as build working relationships across the Card Legal team and the Legal department.

And you’ll work in a collaborative, supportive environment that values your insights, promotes continuous learning, and rewards creative thinking. To succeed in this Senior Manager, Senior Counsel role, you’ll need strong legal and business analytical skills.

Written and oral communication skills also are key, as is the ability to efficiently and effectively organize thoughts on legal risk, focusing on what matters in driving business initiatives forward responsibly. It’s a real plus if you have expertise in or significant experience with travel industry laws, consumer financial regulatory laws, marketing and advertising laws, and/or general risk management.

This position will have responsibility for: Identifying and assessing legal risks associated with the travel industry and with Capital One’s offering of travel services as part of Capital One Travel; Knowing your business in depth so you can translate and apply laws and legal requirements for the business teams and the business intent for the legal team and legal subject matter experts; Actively engaging with colleagues to provide legal support as part of a collaborative and cross-functional team; and Working with PPX, Card, Brand, the Business Risk Office, Corporate Communications, and Compliance stakeholders to address risks, develop creative solutions, and resolve issues.

This position will entail regular interactions with senior business partners, Legal Department subject matter experts, and other business attorneys in a fast-paced environment

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school Active member in good standing of at least one state bar At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate
  • as in-house counsel Preferred Qualifications: 5+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate

  • Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting.
  • Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
  • McLean, VA: $200,700 - $229,100 for Sr.
  • Counsel Richmond, VA: $182,500 - $208,300 for Sr.
  • Counsel Riverwoods, IL: $182,500 - $208,300 for Sr.
  • Counsel Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location
  • the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
  • This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
  • Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
