Find your future with us. The Boeing Company is looking for a Composite and Materials Manager to join the Engineering & Technology Innovation based out of Charleston, SC. This role is responsible for directing day-to-day work in support of technology development, maturation, demonstration, and transition readiness efforts, with an emphasis on composites materials, manufacturing technologies, and laboratory-based development and test activities.

As a composites manager in CMS, you will leverage your deep expertise in composite materials and processes to work closely with structures and production teams. You will partner closely with the BCA and BDS programs as well as external customers to develop and transition new capabilities.

The successful candidate will apply understanding and experience of engineering principles; research and development project management; and technology transition to a variety of Internal Research and Development (IRAD), Contracted Research and Development (CRAD), and business unit projects.

Applicants should be experienced in leading a highly capable research and development team to deliver results within schedule and funding constraints, and in marketing team skills and technology. Active team management is required for multiple projects, to oversee planning tasks, to define and develop new projects, and to support team member career development.

Applicants must be technically proficient, proactive, team oriented, and possess good communication skills. Position also involves short term travel, as required, to other Boeing sites, suppliers, universities, and government research agencies.

Position Responsibilities: Manage, develop, and motivate an engineering team of highly skilled and capable individuals in the area of composites materials & processes and structures Manage, execute, and grow contracted and internally funded research and development projects.

Oversees planning, management, and execution of project schedules, finances, and deliverables. Develop, maintain, and grow relationships and partnerships with internal personnel, peers, stakeholders, government organizations, industry partners, and universities.

Lead the shaping, pursuit, and capture of government CRAD and global leverage opportunities. Lead a team of engineers and technical professionals supporting technology development, maturation, and demonstration activities with emphasis on composites and related advanced material technologies.

Review and manage internal material and process standards for technical interpretation and qualification efforts. Ensure technical work is performed in accordance with applicable engineering standards, lab procedures, safety requirements, and company processes.

Review technical products and deliverables for accuracy, quality, feasibility, and alignment with business and technology objectives. Coordinate with stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, program management, materials, and operations to align priorities and resolve issues.

Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement in support of technology advancement. Build and maintain strong cross-functional and cross-organizational relationships to ensure alignment on priorities and timing.

Lead and manage a team of ~15 individual contributors based at the North Campus Tech Center To be considered for this position you will be required to complete an assessment as part of the selection process. Failure to complete the assessment will remove you from consideration.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience): Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership.” Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated collaborative leadership style Experience in a laboratory, test, or experimental development environment.

Experience leading technical work, projects, or teams. Experience with contracted research & development (CRAD) Experience communicating technical information across multiple levels of an organization. Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment including across design, structures, and production engineering teams Experience with the acquisition of new business including shaping and proposing research programs, proposal development, and program execution Experience in leadership including planning, implementing, and executing plans for task, research and development, or contract management.

Prefer candidates with advanced graduate level engineering education with an MS or PhD degree. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Travel: Position may require travel up to 10% of the time. Summary Pay Range for Manager (Level K): $141,100 -$190,900 Language Requirements: Not Applicable Education: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Relocation: This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
