GM Defense is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Paint Technician Lead who is looking for an opportunity to showcase their talents and make an impact in a strategic growth area.

The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, leads by example, and demonstrates strong problem-solving ability with limited oversight. The Role: The Paint Technician Lead is a critical operations role responsible for overseeing a portion of the production line and the team members within that space.

This position requires deep technical expertise in both automotive body repair and paint operations, along with the leadership skills needed to drive safety, quality, and throughput

What You'll Do

  • Lead a team of process technicians and support daily production throughput targets Oversee all vehicle paint, prep, finish
  • detail processes within the assigned area Apply extensive body and paint knowledge to ensure high-quality workmanship and production efficiency Reinforce all established safety policies and standards to maintain a safe work environment for all team members Ensure proper training of operators and maintain work-station coverage with qualified, trained personnel Perform and support vehicle disassembly, body preparation, refinishing, reassembly
  • final verification of proper operation through the IRC process Troubleshoot and document vehicle issues, including paint defects, fit and finish concerns, mechanical issues
  • basic electrical concerns Escalate, document
  • communicate complex vehicle issues to support teams and engineering staff Support retrofit of vehicle components in accordance with work instructions and engineering direction Maintain Workplace Organization (WPO) standards within the assigned area Drive accountability for standardized work, workmanship quality
  • team performance Serve as a technical resource and point of contact for paint and body-related process improvement opportunities Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications): 3 years of body repair experience 3 years of automotive paint experience Demonstrated leadership experience in a production, manufacturing
  • shop environment Strong working knowledge of paint application, surface preparation, masking, finishing
  • defect correction Experience troubleshooting and resolving fit and finish issues Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects independently Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work well across all levels of staff and management Proficiency in Microsoft Office Proven ability to work effectively in a team-based environment What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications): Experience leading technicians in a low-volume production or vehicle build environment Military vehicle, specialty vehicle
