The Real Estate Risk Sr Analyst is a seasoned professional role. Applies in-depth disciplinary knowledge, contributing to the development of new techniques and the improvement of processes and work-flow for the area or function. Integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area.

Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the function and overall business. Requires good analytical skills in order to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex and dynamic material from multiple sources. Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required. Regularly assumes informal/formal leadership role within teams.

Involved in coaching and training of new recruits Significant impact in terms of project size, geography, etc. by influencing decisions through advice, counsel and/or facilitating services to others in area of specialization. Work and performance of all teams in the area are directly affected by the performance of the individual.

Oversee risks taken in connection with real estate activities which includes extension of credit that are secured by liens on or interests in real estate, direct and indirect private equity and public market real estate investments, capital markets, construction lending, servicing any consumer or commercial loan undertaken when real estate security or real estate activity, or an asset sale, or a refinancing is contemplated as a first or second way out

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial analysis, risk assessment and analyticals support for specific accounts and projects across Citi Real Estate.
  • Cover various relationships with Real Estate groups, provide credit analysis and monitoring of new and existing relationships.
  • Utilize complex and diverse knowledge and understanding of credit and risks across the various real estate sectors and an opportunity to develop skills in credit analysis, capital structuring
  • the ability to identify, quantify risk and conceptualize risk mitigation solutions.
  • Prepare periodic quarterly, semi-annual
  • annual credit reviews of existing real estate clients, including in-depth analysis of financial statements, capital structure/liquidity analysis
  • risk rating determinations.
  • Work directly with junior and senior real estate colleagues to generate meaningful and detailed credit reviews.
  • Compile and synthesize real estate specific industry research, equity research reports, existing Citi real estate database information, and debt capital markets trends.
  • Work with Risk Managers in research required for property-level credit analysis, including but not limited to extensive research on property-specific market conditions, market demographics
  • historical operating performance.
  • The Analyst will also have the opportunity to present their findings and risk rating analysis to Risk Managers.
  • Work in the internally-developed risk systems to submit credit approval and risk rating work flows for Risk Manager approval and for internal documentation purposes.
  • Monitor internal risk systems to ensure all aspects of the data is accurate.
  • Maintains sound understanding about different markets, products, strategies, tools and associated risks.
  • Identifies reputation risk and its cause/effects.
  • Assist Work with Risk Managers with the preparation of portfolio risk analysis, ad-hoc regulatory requirement needs, and other ad-hoc assignments.
  • Participate in transactions (upon further progression in the analyst role) and prepare various components of the credit committee memorandums and other risk assessment materials to be distributed during credit committee meetings.
  • Analysts may also have the opportunity to participate alongside Risk Managers on internal discussions regarding credit agreement negotiations.
  • Identifyy and analyze situations that create risk and legal liability for Citi.
  • Knowledgeable about risk systems infrastructure including key processes, coverage and data flows in order to identify risk effectively.
  • Mentors junior team members across multiple products/platforms.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices
  • escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years previous risk experience required Possess complex and diverse knowledge of financial services, knowledge of Citi is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel as well as database management experience.
  • Rudimentary understanding of applicable industry regulations and standards (i.e., USPAP, FIRREA, ASTM).
  • Education: Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed.
