  • Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses
  • government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position
  • you'll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You'll have high standards for yourself and the work you deliver
  • you'll be looking for ways to improve your models' accuracy, computational efficiency
  • operational impact. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder)
  • lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Key job responsibilities This is a modeling and simulation engineering position where you will develop, validate
  • maintain physics-based and empirical models of the Leo satellite power system. You will build simulation frameworks that predict battery state of charge, solar array power generation, thermal-electrical coupling
  • power system degradation over the satellite lifecycle. Your models will be used to inform architecture trade studies, hardware/software design decisions, validate on-orbit performance
  • feed operational planning tools that manage constellation-wide energy resources. You will own the development of orbit-level power simulations that ingest mission plans, orbital parameters
  • hardware configuration to predict future power system behavior. You will correlate model predictions against on-orbit telemetry, identify model gaps
  • iterate to improve fidelity. You will develop degradation models (battery capacity fade, solar array efficiency loss) using a combination of lab test data, manufacturer characterization
  • flight data. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats
  • work in a highly collaborative environment. We will need to tackle problems that span a variety of domains. A day in the life You will work closely with power systems engineers, mission operations
  • software teams to integrate your models into operational services such as the Power Digital Twin and hardware-in-the-loop testbeds. You will also support design teams by running parametric studies and sensitivity analyses for next-generation satellite configurations.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline - 3+ years of experience developing physics-based or data-driven models for electrical, power, thermal
  • electromechanical systems - 3+ years of proficiency in Python or Matlab for numerical simulation, data analysis
  • model development - Experience with model validation against experimental or operational data
  • Experience modeling battery systems (equivalent circuit models, degradation/aging models, state estimation) - Experience modeling solar array or photovoltaic system performance (I-V characteristics, temperature dependence, degradation) - Familiarity with orbital mechanics and how orbital parameters affect spacecraft power budgets (eclipse fraction, beta angle, solar flux) - Experience building simulation pipelines that run at scale (batch processing, parameterized sweeps, Monte Carlo analysis) - Familiarity with cloud-based data infrastructure (AWS, time-series databases, data pipelines) - Experience correlating models with on-orbit or field telemetry data - Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to document model assumptions, limitations
  • validation results - Experience with version control (Git) and reproducible computational workflows (Jupyter, containerized environments) Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability
