The Opportunity National Australia Bank (NAB) is accelerating its technological evolution by embedding autonomous, intelligent systems into the core of our enterprise.

We are seeking a visionary AI Engineer (SDE3) to join our Bengaluru office in a collaborative, hybrid work model. As an SDE3, you will be a primary technical driver in designing and building advanced Agentic AI architectures. You will lead the transition from simple prompt engineering to deterministic, multi-step autonomous workflows equipped with persistent memory and complex reasoning capabilities.

You will be responsible for creating enterprise-ready AI solutions that prioritize security, compliance, and risk mitigation from the ground up, ensuring our AI deployments meet the rigorous standards of a global financial institution. This is a unique opportunity to shape the foundational design patterns, advanced retrieval systems, and AI gateways that will power NAB’s next generation of intelligent applications.

What You’ll Do Architect Agentic Systems: Design and build scalable, production-grade AI architectures utilizing advanced multi-agent orchestrations, ReAct (Reason+Act) strategies, and complex tool/function calling loops. Master Advanced Retrieval & Memory: Implement advanced retrieval strategies (such as GraphRAG and multi-hop routing) and integrate enterprise Vector Databases to ground agent decisions in persistent, long-term memory.

Embed Security & Compliance: Architect AI solutions that are intrinsically secure. You will integrate data privacy, compliance guardrails, and secure AI Gateways directly into the system design to prevent data leakage and mitigate LLM vulnerabilities.

Drive Observability & Evals: Build comprehensive evaluation pipelines using techniques like LLM-as-a-judge, offline golden datasets, and tracing telemetry to ensure deterministic, safe, and auditable agent behavior in production. Optimize for Scale: Take ownership of the cost-to-serve and latency of multi-agent workflows through intelligent model routing, KV cache optimization, and rigorous prompt token management.

Lead Enterprise Integration: Build highly available solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing NAB databases and APIs, while mentoring junior engineers on agentic software design patterns. Innovate / Identify new Areas of Application of Artificial Intelligence: Identify new areas of application of AI / LLMs in secure & enterprise-grade implementation, which bring direct improvements in technology or have business impact with relevant business & technical justification and use cases.

What You’ll Bring Senior-Level Production Experience: Proven experience operating at a Senior Software Engineer (SDE3) level, with a strong portfolio of taking complex LLM and AI solutions from concept to enterprise-scale production. Agentic Framework Mastery: Deep, hands-on expertise building with orchestration frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, Amazon Bedrock, and AgentCore, alongside familiarity with the broader ecosystem (e.g., CrewAI, AutoGen, or DSPy).

Advanced Design Patterns & Protocols: Deep expertise in agentic design patterns (Reflection, ReAct) and a strong grasp of modern agent-to-agent communication standards like the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Vector DB & Infrastructure Skills: Hands-on experience with Vector Databases (e.g., pgvector, Pinecone, Qdrant) and rigorous software engineering practices using Python, TypeScript, Java, or Go.

Secure Architecture Expertise: A demonstrated ability to design systems with built-in compliance, data security, and risk-mitigation frameworks specifically tailored for generative AI workloads. Production Observability: Real-world experience managing the lifecycle of AI models in production, including tracing multi-step agent reasoning (using tools like LangSmith or OpenTelemetry) and mitigating prompt injection or hallucinations.

Lead & Mentor Engineers: Act as a technical multiplier. Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, conduct rigorous code/architecture reviews, and foster a culture of engineering excellence, continuous learning, and accountability. Stakeholders Management: Coordinate seamlessly with product managers, business owners, and work collaboratively with a cross-geographical team & stake owners.

Translate high-level business objectives into scalable, secure AI technical strategies. Good to Have Machine Learning Background: Solid foundational knowledge of traditional Machine Learning algorithms, model training pipelines, fine-tuning, and evaluation metrics.

Financial Services Context: Previous experience building secure, scalable technology solutions within banking, fintech, or other highly regulated corporate environments. Cloud Infrastructure Leadership: Advanced experience with enterprise cloud environments (specifically AWS) and deploying containerized applications (Kubernetes, Docker) for AI workloads and MLOps pipelines.
