You will be a partner with your team to support members, projects, and to meet goals impacting business outcomes. The professionals you work with at Humana will depend on the type of internship you select. They may include healthcare professionals, HR, and IT, to name a few.
The objective is to support and facilitate care for members. To be eligible, you must be a transitioning service member approved to participate in the DoW SkillBridge, or a military spouse approved to participate in the Military Spouse Fellowship Program.
Job Description The Data Governance Senior Professional Intern will report to the Director of Data Governance. You will apply your training, experience and previously acquired skills to focus on Data Quality. Research enterprise data governance frameworks, standards, policies, and existing internal practices to inform the development of a foundational Data Governance Implementation Guide.
Support the creation and documentation of a practical implementation approach that guides business areas through required data governance activities for new business initiatives. Help define how business areas should identify, document, classify, manage, and govern data throughout the planning, design, implementation, and operational phases of new business work.
Partner with Enterprise Data Governance leadership to translate governance requirements into clear guidance, checklists, templates, decision points, and adoption steps. Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to understand operational needs, current-state practices, and areas where additional governance rigor is needed.
Support alignment of the implementation guide with enterprise architecture, data management, data quality, data stewardship, data dictionary, data sensitivity, metadata, and data flow documentation expectations. Document roles and responsibilities for business areas, data owners, data stewards, technology partners, and governance stakeholders involved in implementing data governance requirements.
Assist in defining repeatable processes for applying data governance to new business, including intake, assessment, documentation, approvals, issue escalation, and ongoing monitoring. Support the development of communication, education, and roll-out materials to help business areas adopt the Data Governance Implementation Guide.
Participate in stakeholder review sessions, gather feedback, document decisions, and incorporate updates into the implementation guide and supporting materials. Help identify opportunities to improve consistency, transparency, and accountability in how data governance requirements are embedded into business operations and technology delivery.
Support the establishment of adoption metrics, progress tracking, and reporting mechanisms to monitor implementation of data governance practices across business areas. Contribute to process improvement by helping teams understand how strong governance practices support reliable data, informed decision-making, operational performance, compliance expectations, and reduced business risk.

Our government contract requires U.S. citizenship for this position Successfully receive interim approval for government security clearance (NBIS - National Background Investigation Service) HGB is not authorized to do work in Puerto Rico per our government contract.

Bachelor's degree 7 years of experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles Knowledge of data governance frameworks, metadata management, data lineage, business glossary, and data catalog concepts Experience profiling and analyzing data to identify trends, anomalies, risks, gaps, and opportunities for data quality improvement Experience supporting enterprise analytics, reporting, regulatory, operational, cloud modernization, or AI readiness initiatives through trusted and governed data practices Preferred Qualifications 10 years in healthcare, business, or financial services Experience with healthcare data (claims, clinical, service operations) Technical fluency with SQL, data profiling techniques, data mapping and interpretation of data lineage and transformation logic Experience developing data quality scorecards, metrics, and dashboards Experience with data quality platforms such as Ataccama, Collibra, Big Eye, Alation, Informatica, or Microsoft Purview Experience with data visualization Workstyle: Remote Work at Home Location: Nationwide Travel: This role may ask for occasional time in the Louisville Kentucky office Additional Information: The DOW SkillBridge Internship Program provides transitioning military service members time to gain civilian work experience while still on active duty with an employer for a period approved by their command and the DOW, with an average timeline of 90 days.

While full-time employment is not guaranteed, Humana will provide networking opportunities and may consider interns/fellows for future roles based on business needs, role requirements, and successful program participation. Work at Home Requirements To ensure Hybrid Office/Home associates' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Hybrid Office/Home associates must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership Associates who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.
Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested.
In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs.
