The Senior Manager, External Affairs Giving is responsible for advancing ViiV Healthcare's U.S. community investment strategy by identifying, evaluating, recommending, and managing strategic grantmaking and partnerships that improve HIV prevention, treatment, retention in care, health equity, and community capacity.
This role serves as a key leader within U.S. External Affairs, partnering with internal stakeholders and community organizations to ensure investments align with ViiV Healthcare's strategic priorities while addressing the evolving needs of communities disproportionately impacted by HIV.
The Senior Manager will manage a portfolio of community investments, cultivate trusted relationships with nonprofit and public health leaders, generate actionable community insights, monitor portfolio performance, and contribute to the continuous evolution of ViiV Healthcare's philanthropic strategy.
This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following… Strategic Grantmaking & Community Investment Execute ViiV Healthcare's U.S. community investment strategy through identification, evaluation, recommendation, and management of grants and strategic partnerships.
Evaluate grant proposals, organizational capacity, budgets, and program plans to develop funding recommendations for governance committees and leadership. Conduct organizational, programmatic, and community assessments to ensure investments align with strategic priorities and demonstrated community need.
Partner with nonprofit organizations and external stakeholders to identify opportunities that strengthen HIV prevention, treatment, retention in care, health equity, advocacy, workforce development, and community infrastructure. Support the development and refinement of funding priorities, investment frameworks, portfolio strategies, and grantmaking processes.
Recommend portfolio adjustments based on emerging community needs, organizational performance, and strategic priorities. Contribute to innovative funding models and capacity-building investments that strengthen the HIV ecosystem. Grantee & Stakeholder Relationship Management Serve as relationship manager for an assigned portfolio of funded organizations and strategic community partners.
Maintain regular engagement with grantees through virtual meetings, site visits, conferences, and community convenings. Monitor organizational progress, identify challenges and opportunities, and foster collaborative relationships built on trust and transparency.
Provide strategic guidance while maintaining appropriate compliance and governance standards. Build strong partnerships with nonprofit executives, community advocates, healthcare leaders, public health organizations, and other external stakeholders.
Ensure a positive grantee experience throughout the funding lifecycle. Community Intelligence & Strategic Insights Gather and synthesize qualitative and quantitative community intelligence to inform investment strategy and organizational decision-making.
Monitor emerging trends, unmet needs, healthcare access challenges, policy developments, and funding landscapes affecting communities impacted by HIV. Identify innovative organizations, programs, and partnership opportunities for future investment.
Collaborate with External Affairs Community Liaisons and cross-functional stakeholders to incorporate local market insights into national investment strategies. Develop strategic recommendations based on community intelligence and environmental assessments.
Portfolio Performance & Impact Measurement Monitor funded initiatives against established goals, milestones, and outcomes. Review progress reports, evaluation findings, impact metrics, and stakeholder feedback. Identify best practices, lessons learned, and opportunities to improve portfolio performance.
Develop dashboards, executive summaries, presentations, and reports communicating investment impact and portfolio performance. Support annual strategic planning through portfolio analysis and community needs assessments. Strategic Programs & Capacity Building Support the design, implementation, and management of strategic giving initiatives that strengthen organizational sustainability and community capacity.
Contribute to initiatives focused on workforce development, leadership development, technology adoption, health equity, organizational effectiveness, and community resilience. Partner with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen systems supporting people impacted by HIV.
Identify opportunities to expand ViiV Healthcare's strategic influence through innovative community investments. Grants Governance & Compliance Oversee governance throughout the grant lifecycle, including funding recommendations, approvals, contracting, monitoring, reporting, and closeout.
Ensure grantmaking activities comply with applicable legal, financial, regulatory, and corporate governance requirements. Partner closely with Legal, Compliance, Finance, Procurement, and Grants Operations to maintain strong governance practices.
Support audit readiness through accurate documentation, process consistency, and adherence to established controls. Identify and mitigate operational, compliance, reputational, and programmatic risks associated with community investments. Contribute to continuous improvement of grantmaking policies, governance processes, and operational efficiencies.
External Representation Represent ViiV Healthcare at conferences, community meetings, advisory boards, stakeholder convenings, and industry events. Build and maintain trusted relationships across the HIV, public health, philanthropic, and nonprofit sectors.
Support presentations regarding ViiV Healthcare's community investment strategy, impact, and partnership approach. Contribute to thought leadership surrounding strategic philanthropy, health equity, nonprofit capacity building, and community investment.

Basic Qualification We are seeking professionals with the following required skills and qualifications to help us achieve our goals Bachelor's degree 5 plus years of HIV experience in philanthropy, grantmaking, nonprofit leadership, public health, healthcare, community engagement, or a related field.
Experience evaluating funding opportunities and managing grant or community investment portfolios. Experience building relationships with nonprofit organizations and diverse external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously.
Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, analytical, and project management skills. Ability to travel domestically (approximately 25–35%). Preferred Qualification If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus Advanced degree (MPH, MPA, MBA, DrPH, MSW, or related field).
Experience within HIV, infectious disease, public health, health equity, or healthcare access. Knowledge of nonprofit financial management and organizational assessment. Experience working within corporate philanthropy or healthcare corporate social responsibility.
Familiarity with grants management systems, impact measurement frameworks, and portfolio analytics. Experience presenting to senior leadership and governance committees. #LI-ViiV #LI-GSK The US annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $129,000 to $215,000.
The US salary ranges take into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role.
