- engineering excellence. Job Summary We are looking for a passionate Software Engineer to build innovative solutions that power Lowe's Search ecosystem and enhance the omnichannel retail experience. This role involves developing scalable full-stack applications, backend services, APIs
- business tooling that enable product discovery, search operations
- merchandising capabilities across Lowe's digital platforms. The ideal candidate has strong software engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience in Java and/or Python, exposure to modern front-end technologies
- a passion for building high-quality software. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, test
- deploy solutions while contributing to search technologies, retail business capabilities

- overall software delivery while applying sound engineering judgment and best practices. Roles & Responsibilities Core Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable full-stack applications supporting the Search ecosystem.
- Develop backend services and REST APIs using Java and/or Python.
- Build modern, responsive web applications using contemporary front-end frameworks.
- Contribute to search services, business tooling, and retail applications that support product discovery and merchandising.
- Develop and enhance APIs, microservices, and cloud-native applications following engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with Product, Merchandising, Data Engineering, Infrastructure, and Architecture teams to deliver business-critical capabilities.
- Participate in developing and enhancing search-related capabilities, including search services, indexing workflows, and retail search experiences.
- Contribute to enterprise search initiatives where applicable.
- Develop reliable, maintainable, and well-tested software using modern engineering practices.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and Agile ceremonies.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable fixes.
- Build automation for testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support.
- Leverage AI-powered development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini Code Assist, or similar) to improve developer productivity, code quality, testing, and documentation.
- Continuously learn emerging technologies in software engineering, retail search, cloud-native development, and AI-assisted engineering. Years of Experience
- 2+ years of software engineering experience.
- Experience developing enterprise applications using Java and/or Python.
- Experience building REST APIs and microservices.
- Experience with modern front-end technologies such as React, Angular, or similar frameworks.
- Experience working with cloud-native applications and Agile software development.
- Exposure to enterprise search platforms or retail/e-commerce applications is preferred. Education Qualification & Certifications Required Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Relevant certifications in Java, Python, Cloud Technologies, AI, or Full-Stack Development are an added advantage. Required Skill Set
- Java and/or Python.
- Full-stack application development.
- React, Angular, or similar front-end frameworks.
- REST APIs and Microservices.
- Object-Oriented Programming and Design Principles.
- SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Cloud platforms (GCP preferred; AWS/Azure acceptable).
- Docker, Kubernetes, and containerization.
- CI/CD pipelines and Git-based development.
- Linux/Unix fundamentals.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
- Understanding of software engineering best practices, unit testing, and secure coding practices.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini Code Assist, or similar.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and learning mindset. Secondary Skill Set
- OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, Apache Solr, or Google Retail Search (GRS).
- Kafka or other messaging and streaming technologies.
- Retail or e-commerce domain experience.
- Exposure to search technologies, indexing, and product discovery concepts.
- Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, or Splunk.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, Generative AI, Vector Search, or Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
- Experience building internal business applications or merchandising tools.
