A Day in the Life The Medtronic Digital Health organization is Medtronic’s technology team focused on next generation Digital Health capabilities which deliver on the Medtronic mission and vision to deliver Insight Driven Care. This role will operate within the Healthcare Operations subgroup of the broader Digital Health team, focused on patient engagement, care coordination, AI, healthcare analytics & interoperability amongst other advanced technologies which enhance our product portfolio with new services, while improving clinical & patient experiences.
As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, performance, and scalability of our cloud-based digital health software systems. You will work closely with development, QA, cybersecurity, and regulatory teams to design and support robust systems that meet strict medical industry standards.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned: System Reliability & Monitoring Architect and engineer observability frameworks for Digital Health platforms Lead the architecture and technical design of a unified, greenfield observability and monitoring framework for AWS hosted applications, ensuring seamless integration across diverse product teams.
Collaborate with engineering and product stakeholders to define requirements and best practices for cloud native observability, monitoring, and alerting solutions and develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop dashboards and alerts.
Architect, design, and implement scalable, highly available observability systems using industry standard tools (such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Elastic, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic), tailored to the AWS ecosystem. Set technical direction and establish guidelines for instrumenting applications, log aggregation, distributed tracing, and metrics collection in a standardized, reusable way Serve as the subject matter expert on observability architecture by providing mentorship, documentation, and guidance to product engineering teams Drive continuous improvement in monitoring strategies, alerting effectiveness, and system reliability through architectural innovation and proactive feedback loops Contribute to the design, build, and maintenance of highly available and scalable infrastructure in AWS based cloud ecosystem Perform proactive performance tuning and capacity planning across various system components, including web applications, APIs and data pipelines Develop strategies for monitoring AI/ML model pipelines, ensuring continuous monitoring of data quality, training outputs, model inference accuracy, and operational metrics—critical for traceability under FDA SaMD and EU MDR Incident Management & Root Cause Analysis Participate in incident response efforts to ensure SLA adherence and continuous improvement of Digital Health platforms Development and automation of solutions to improve system recovery time, recovery objectives, and resiliency Manage cyber security monitoring capabilities and resolution of vulnerabilities Security & Compliance Work with compliance and cybersecurity teams to ensure systems meet regulatory requirements (HIPAA, GDPR, ISO standards) Implement logging, access controls, and audit trails to support secure operations Develop and maintain infrastructure and operational documentation using "documentation as code" Ensure all runbooks, incident response procedures, and troubleshooting guides are up-to-date, version-controlled, and easily accessible Collaborate with cross-functional teams to document SLAs, SLOs, and system dependencies clearly and consistently Integrate documentation with CI/CD pipelines to enable automated validation and change tracking of system configurations Create and maintain automated onboarding and knowledge base resources to support team training and continuity Required knowledge and experience: 16 years of full time education pedigree (science stream). 7+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or related application delivery & infrastructure roles.
AWS Platform: Hands on experience with AWS services - in particular serverless architectures (CloudWatch, S3, RDS, Lamba, IAM, API Gateway, etc.) Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform and CloudFormation - Proven ability to write and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Programming Languages: Strong programming skills in Python Data Formats: Experience with JSON, XML and other relevant data formats CI/CD Tools: experience setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar tools Scripting and automation: experience in scripting language such as Python, TypeScript, etc… Monitoring and Logging: Familiarity with monitoring & logging tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, Elastic, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic Source Code Management: Expertise with git commands and associated VCS (Gitlab, Github, Gitea or similar) Documentation: Experience with markup syntax and Docs as Code for creating technical documentation Previous Healthcare or Medical Device experience Nice to Haves: Experience working with Healthcare Data Building software classified as Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) Experience implementation enterprise grade cyber security & privacy by design into software products Experience developing global applications Strong understanding of SDLC – Waterfall & Agile methodologies Experience leading software development teams onshore and offshore Physical Job Requirements The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position.
