Compliance Officer
  • Want to help Earth's most customer-centric company design, implement, and monitor risk mitigation strategies to improve the customer experience and protect Amazon's brand? In this role, you will manage the lifecycle of complex, cross-functional risk programs within Amazon's global transportation businesses. You will define risk program objectives, drive improvements quantified with metrics, and operate independently with limited guidance — partnering across organizations to influence technology roadmaps, business decisions, and risk strategy. You will build new risk frameworks and processes from the ground up, including a Risk Appetite Score methodology and enhanced risk reporting processes, that enable data-driven risk prioritization at scale. You will partner with technology teams to design and deploy risk tools and reporting solutions that enable data-driven decision-making. You will establish cross-organizational adoption strategies for change intake and risk oversight processes, ensuring consistent uptake across Last Mile and Middle Mile teams. You must clearly and concisely communicate identified findings to senior leadership (directors and VPs), write compelling narratives, and design workflows in support of risk-reduction activities. You will negotiate resources and priorities, make trade-offs between short-term needs and long-term strategic objectives, and drive business changes that reduce risk. You will work collaboratively with business stakeholders, legal, technology, and field operations teams to implement world-class, customer-centric risk management solutions. Key job responsibilities This role is ideal for a risk professional with experience in program management, risk, audit, or compliance, who has owned complex cross-org programs end-to-end and can influence technology, legal, and operations partners — without direct authority — while communicating risk clearly to senior stakeholders. On the Risk Evaluation and Monitoring (REM) team, you will own four distinct, high-impact workstreams that together strengthen how Amazon's transportation business identifies, measures, and responds to risk: change intake (ensuring Transportation Risk and Compliance (TRC) has visibility into transportation changes before they introduce unmitigated risk/ahead of implementation), REM change management (keeping risk evaluation content, methodology, and core risk training current and efficient), a new Risk Appetite Score framework (defining how much risk TRC is willing to accept, from the ground up), and tool reporting process enhancement (partnering with Tech to keep risk reporting accurate and reliable). Change Intake and Risk Oversight — Last Mile and Middle Mile: - Own the lifecycle of change intake programs for both Last Mile (Hub and Flex Operations) and Middle Mile transportation as a mandatory stakeholder in change management rubrics — establishing a comprehensive, scalable process to manage change intake requests across Amazon's transportation network. - Develop standardized review and impact assessment protocols, stakeholder consultation mechanisms, and prioritization methodology to ensure TRC oversight of program changes, pilots, and expansions. - Formalize intake and triage processes — including standardized submission templates, service level agreements, escalation paths, and risk-based decision trees — to ensure timely identification and assessment of changes that may impact TRC's risk posture and control environment. - Implement capacity planning guidelines that balance growing request volumes with timely, risk-based decision-making. - Coordinate with cross-functional partners including Audit and Monitoring teams (change impact assessments, compliance review, monitoring activity alignment), Last Mile and Middle Mile change management teams (intake routing, rubric alignment), program managers (scope documentation, implementation timelines), and Legal and Policy (implications and monitoring updates). - Own end-to-end Program Policy & Operations Manual change requests — reviewing submissions from the Change Intake process, evaluating alignment with the tenets and criteria, assessing impact to monitoring activities, and driving communication of changes to impacted stakeholders. Risk Evaluation and Monitoring (REM) — Change Management, Content Review, and Risk Training: - Lead change management processes for REM — a global, centralized team that reduces and manages operational, legal, and compliance risk to Amazon and our carrier partners. - Own the review of risk evaluation content ensuring evaluations reflect current landscapes, operational realities, emerging risk, and current methodologies. - Streamline and eliminate excess workflows, processes, or controls
  • drive efficiencies and create predictable control and process paths. - Modernize and maintain TRC's Risk Management Fundamentals training program — aligning core risk curriculum to industry guidelines and the organizational governance framework and keeping it current as methodologies evolve. - Contribute to risk-related policies applicable to organizational-level goals
  • balance customer experience against risk management concerns when making recommendations. Risk Appetite Score Framework Development: - Develop and own a Risk Appetite Score and accompanying framework from the ground up — defining the methodology, quantitative thresholds, and tolerance bands. - Establish the governance and review cadence, and partner with senior stakeholders to translate qualitative risk appetite statements into a measurable, decision-ready standard adopted across TRC. Tool Reporting Process Enhancement: - Own the enhancement of the tool reporting process, partnering with Tech and process owners to define requirements, drive updates, and revise the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure accurate and reliable reporting. - Coordinate with teams outside of TRC to support data requests, gathering and delivering inputs from TRC stakeholders to meet reporting needs. A day in the life The Senior Risk Manager will manage the lifecycle of multiple complex, cross-functional risk programs — operating with independence in ambiguous environments where business problems and risk strategies may not yet be defined. This individual owns four critical workstreams: (1) change intake and risk oversight — building standardized systems for Last Mile and Middle Mile operations to capture, prioritize, and assess transportation changes through a risk lens
  • (2) REM change management — ensuring risk evaluation content, processes, and core risk training remain current, efficient, and aligned with evolving methodologies
  • (3) a Risk Appetite Score framework — built from the ground up to define how much risk TRC is willing to accept
  • and (4) tool reporting process enhancement — partnering with Tech to keep risk reporting accurate and reliable. The Senior Risk Manager makes trade-offs between short-term needs and long-term sustainability, influences technology roadmaps and business decisions, and partners with legal, technology, and operations teams across organizations. They write compelling narratives for senior leadership, drive improvements quantified with metrics, and actively mentor and develop others. They exemplify high judgment, effective decision-making, innovative thinking, clear communications, and a strong customer focus. About the team Transportation Risk and Compliance (TRC) is the voice of risk and compliance for Amazon's transportation businesses.
