Position Summary The Senior Data Scientist will lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced analytics and machine learning solutions to support insights into Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and their impact on health outcomes.
This role partners closely with cross-functional stakeholders—including clinical, product, engineering, and business teams—to translate complex data into actionable strategies that improve population health, reduce disparities, and inform value-based care initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in statistical modeling, healthcare data (including SDOH sources), and scalable data science practices. This role will also mentor junior team members, establish best practices, and influence enterprise data strategy through innovative use of structured and unstructured data.
Required Qualifications 4+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related quantitative field Proven experience developing and deploying machine learning models and statistical analyses in production environments Strong proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages for data analysis and modeling Experience working with large, complex datasets, including healthcare, claims, EHR, or SDOH-related data Demonstrated expertise in predictive modeling, feature engineering, and model validation techniques Experience with SQL and distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark) Ability to translate business problems into analytical frameworks and communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders Familiarity with healthcare industry standards, regulations, and data privacy requirements (e.g., HIPAA) Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment Preferred Qualifications Experience specifically working with Social Determinants of Health datasets (e.g., housing, food insecurity, education, transportation, community-level indices) Knowledge of population health management, value-based care models, or health equity initiatives Experience integrating diverse data sources, including geospatial, public health, and third-party SDOH data Familiarity with causal inference, econometrics, or advanced statistical techniques for real-world evidence generation Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP) and ML lifecycle tools (e.g., MLflow, Databricks) Prior experience in healthcare organizations, payer/provider systems, or health tech companies Strong data visualization skills using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms Experience mentoring junior data scientists and leading project workstreams Publication or contributions to research related to healthcare analytics, SDOH, or health outcomes Education Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Public Health, Economics, or a related quantitative field required Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant discipline strongly preferred Anticipated Weekly Hours 40 Time Type Full time Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is: $92,700.00 - $185,400.00 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.
The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
