POSITION SUMMARY As a Mainframe Developer at CVS Health, you will play a key role in developing and supporting the mission-critical applications that power Aetna's commercial claims platform.

In this role, you will analyze, design, develop, test, deploy, and optimize mainframe solutions that enable accurate, reliable, and high-volume healthcare claims processing for millions of members and providers. Working within an Agile Scrum environment, you will partner closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Architects, and Engineering teams to deliver integrated technology solutions that drive business value, enhance system performance, and support ongoing modernization initiatives.

This position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale enterprise applications while leveraging modern engineering practices, including DevSecOps, CI/CD, API integration, and mainframe modernization. As part of the AT Claim Organization, you will contribute to both strategic initiatives and production support efforts across Aetna's commercial claims ecosystem.

The team is responsible for technology solutions that support critical business operations and help deliver a seamless experience for members, providers, and internal stakeholders. This role offers exposure to complex healthcare systems, enterprise-scale technologies, and cross-functional collaboration while making a meaningful impact on CVS Health's mission of helping people on their path to better health.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications based on business requirements and customer specifications; participate in requirements gathering, design sessions, and solution reviews to deliver scalable, high-performing, and integrated solutions that support current and future business needs.

Apply DevSecOps and Agile development practices throughout the software development lifecycle, utilizing CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub, GitHub Copilot, and Jenkins; support end-to-end QA testing, deployment, and release activities.

Develop and support enterprise APIs and integrations with critical business applications, leveraging mainframe optimization and modernization techniques to improve performance, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency. Monitor application and system performance, analyze and optimize solutions, troubleshoot and resolve issues, maintain technical documentation, and stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and software engineering best practices.

Collaborate closely with project managers, business analysts, architects, and development teams across local and remote locations; demonstrate strong problem-solving, leadership, communication, and independent decision-making skills while driving innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 5+ years of experience in mainframe application development utilizing several of the following technologies: COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, SQL, IBM MQ, Xpediter/Xpeditor, Endeavor, or comparable source control and change management tools. 5+ years of experience in systems analysis, application design, software architecture, and software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies supporting enterprise-scale applications. 5+ years of experience working within Agile delivery environments and collaborating across cross-functional teams to deliver integrated technology solutions. 5+ years of experience supporting, troubleshooting, optimizing, and maintaining complex production mainframe applications. 3+ years of experience working with large-scale offshore development, support, or vendor partner organizations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with healthcare claim administration, payer platforms, or healthcare benefits systems. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, adapt to new technologies, and collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.

Anticipated Weekly Hours 40 Time Type Full time Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is: $83,430.00 - $166,860.00 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.

The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
