Microsoft’s CPIM team is an exciting and fast-evolving finance team at the forefront of Microsoft’s AI strategy. This Senior Finance Manager - Datacenter Cost out/Mantis role sits at the intersection of finance, modeling, and product development for Microsoft datacenter cost management.
The Senior Finance Manager - Data center Cost out/Mantis role owns the financial planning and modeling toolset used across CPIM Finance — partnering with Mantis Engineering (CSCP) to build a world-class planning and modeling platform, and with Finance Data & Engineering (FD&E) to deliver analytic tools that make datacenter cost data accessible, transparent, and decision-ready.
The Senior Finance Manager - Datacenter Cost out/Mantis role is hands-on in model design and ownership: defining the financial logic, driver architecture, and user experience that finance partners across the company rely on. Responsibilities Tool Ownership — Financial Planning & Modeling Platform Serve as the finance owner and product lead for the Microsoft datacenter cost planning and modeling toolset, partnering with Mantis Engineering (CSCP) to build a world-class platform for forecasting, scenario modeling, and long-range planning.
Translate finance requirements into engineering specifications: define data models, calculation logic, driver hierarchies, scenario frameworks, and version-control needs. Drive the product roadmap with Mantis — prioritizing capabilities against finance-cycle deadlines.
Lead UAT, model validation, and rollout to the Finance community; ensure adoption through training, documentation, and feedback loops. Establish governance (model integrity, change control, audit trails, and reconciliation standards) across the full data-to-reporting lifecycle, ensuring impacts are understood and financial accuracy is maintained.
Partnership with FD&E — Analytics & Data Transparency Partner with Finance Data & Engineering (FD&E) to build analytic tools (Power BI, semantic models, data marts) that make Datacenter cost data accessible and transparent across finance and engineering stakeholders.
Define the metrics, dimensions, and views that surface unit economics, cost drivers, and variance insights at multiple levels (workload, service, region, hardware generation). Champion data quality, lineage, and consistency across planning, actuals, and reporting layers; close gaps between source systems and finance-ready data.
Reduce manual analysis cycles by productizing recurring analytics into self-serve dashboards and tools. Business Partnership & Insights Use the modeling platform to deliver insights to Finance leadership and engineering partners. Partner with capacity planning, supply chain, and engineering finance teams to ensure model assumptions reflect operational reality.
Own and evolve financial hierarchies, mappings, and allocation logic to ensure accurate translation of infrastructure usage into financial outcomes Influence investment, sourcing, and efficiency decisions through transparent modeling and clear financial narratives.
Qualifications Required/minimum qualifications Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 2+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 4+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 6+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience OR Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 8+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance work experience OR equivalent experience.
MBA or CPA. Experience with hyperscale cloud, datacenter, or infrastructure cost modeling, including capacity planning, unit economics, or cloud margin analytics. Track record of building complex, driver-based financial models from scratch and owning them through multiple planning cycles.
Experience as a finance product owner or business lead for an enterprise planning, modeling, or analytics platform (e.g., Anaplan, Pigment, Mantis/CSCP) — partnering with engineering teams on roadmap, requirements, and delivery as a builder or model owner.
Experience partnering with finance data engineering teams on semantic models, data marts, or finance data platforms. Technical fluency in advanced Excel modeling, Power BI, and SQL, with the ability to reason about data schemas, ETL, and semantic models.
Proficient ability to translate between finance and engineering audiences. Financial Analysis IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $97,600 - $188,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $125,000 - $206,400 per year.
