- Role Overview
- We're looking for a strategic, highly structured Lead Product Designer / Design Manager to head the design for our Payment Gateway and Web Platforms pod. You'll own the end-to-end design strategy for this scope, bring operational clarity to complex, multi-quarter projects

- This is a high-leverage role. The Payment Gateway is how online businesses accept payments through PhonePe — the experience you design is felt by merchants and, downstream, by every customer who pays them. The details are hard, the constraints are real

- Key Responsibilities (G6 Competencies & Role Expectations)
- Co-own Product Roadmaps: Work closely with leadership to understand the overarching business vision and translate it into actionable, design-first GTM strategies for our Payment Gateway and Web Platforms.
- Mentorship & Team Structuring: Manage, mentor
- scale a pod of 4-5 designers. Pivot effectively from individual contribution to strategic delegation—optimizing team structures, guiding career growth
- overseeing the quality of hires.
- Influence & Partner: Build deep trust with business unit leadership. Operate as a "first team" with leaders by helping them achieve their functional goals through design. Proactively resolve conflicts and align stakeholders toward common objectives.
- Build to Learn: Direct intuitive product architecture with a strong “build to learn” mindset. Emphasize continuous prototyping, synthesize insights from usability testing, and weave them into the core product strategy.
- Drive Measurable Outcomes: Define North Star metrics for your features and utilize data to form actionable insights. Ensure that design outputs directly influence business revenue and deliver measurable results.
- Holistic Architecture: Direct the team to take a holistic view of the product ecosystem, employing journey maps and service blueprints to align stakeholders and improve end-to-end service delivery.
- Orchestrate Complex Delivery: Own the planning, triaging, and delivery of multiple large, complex projects spanning across quarters. Balance competing priorities and tactically unblock teams to deliver work faster.
- Elevate Visual Systems: Deliver best-in-class, cohesive visual experiences by unifying design systems, motion, and UX copy. Foster tight feedback loops between graphics, creative, and product design teams.
- Technical Synergy: Translate complex technical/backend capabilities into highly scalable, delightful, and user-friendly interfaces, ensuring designs exploit technical constraints to enable speed and security.
- High-Quality Handoffs: Leverage your deep understanding of frontend systems and code as a medium. Deploy robust processes for smooth, repeatable engineering handoffs through high-touch communication and clear documentation.
- What We’re Looking For
- 7–10 years of product design experience, with real ownership of complex enterprise, B2B, or fintech platforms.
- 1–2 years managing and scaling direct reports — you've grown designers, not just reviewed their work.
- Proven craft: A portfolio that shows depth: interaction design, visual rigor, and clear reasoning behind each decision.
- Technical acumen: Deep comfort navigating technical constraints to design scalable, developer-friendly interfaces. You speak engineering's language.
- Systems thinking: You design for the whole product and are fluent with design systems — when to extend one and when to break from it.
- Strong communication: You write clear UX copy, make a tight case for a direction, and give direct, useful feedback. You manage stakeholders without losing the user's point of view.
