Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) is at the center of Microsoft's cloud strategy. We build and operate critical authentication, authorization and directory services that are used by the millions of Azure, Office 365, XBOX and Windows users worldwide.
In the mobile-first cloud-first world, sign-in and sign-up is the front door for reliable end user experience to use any of Microsoft's cloud services. We are looking for a Software Engineer II who will work on Entra ID. Entra ID hosts millions of tenants and billions of identities.
It serves billions of requests per day in the stacks powering core authentication and programmability. The Directory Programmability Team owns and operates the core APIs that are foundational to serving these requests and to the running of the most critical services across Microsoft.

You will have the opportunity to design and develop creative, compelling, and cutting-edge systems that support our worldwide operations. Responsibilities Design and develop large scale distributed software services and solutions. System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions. Contribute to architectural decisions and tradeoffs that balance correctness, scalability, latency, and complexity Own or contribute to key platform components, supporting design, delivery, and operational excellence Improve test coverage for services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas.
Mentor developers on the team, create an environment where you and your team can do its best work, and influence and impact others through your results and collaboration. Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions Embody our culture and values Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript
- Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript
- Python OR equivalent experience. 2+ years of experience building and shipping backend services or data platforms #MSFTSecurity Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year.
- There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area
- the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
