Sr Manager Manufacturing What you will do Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will lead a high-impact manufacturing support team responsible for enabling reliable, compliant, and agile operations across Amgen Rhode Island’s AR5 and AR30 manufacturing facilities.

The team’s scope includes day-to-day production support, process lifecycle management, investigations, and training strategy. This critical leadership role requires a collaborative leader who can develop talent, drive continuous improvement, and deliver results in a fast-paced GMP manufacturing environment.

Scope of Responsibility The Senior Manager Manufacturing will be responsible for leading a team that supports AR5 and AR30 manufacturing operations through technical problem solving, product and process ownership, investigation excellence, training readiness, and lifecycle management.

Specific responsibilities include: Serve as a member of the Manufacturing leadership team, including participation in daily management. Provide tactical and strategic leadership for operational support, investigations, and project execution to deliver short- and long-term Amgen Rhode Island site goals.

Build, develop, coach, and retain a diverse, engaged, and high-performing team, while creating an inclusive environment where staff can grow and contribute at their fullest potential. Partner cross-functionally to advance product lifecycle management activities, including product re-introductions, process improvements, operational readiness, and sustained manufacturing performance.

Manage investigations associated with process deviations and non-conformances, ensuring robust root cause analysis, timely closure, and effective recurrence prevention. Manage change controls, corrective actions, and preventive actions associated with products, processes, training, and process equipment.

Provide technical support to troubleshoot, identify, and resolve process, equipment, system, and operational issues in support of a 24/7 manufacturing operation. Develop and implement manufacturing training strategies, including onboarding, cross-training, capability building, and ongoing role readiness aligned with broader organizational priorities.

Identify and deliver capacity, reliability, and efficiency improvements to support the production plan and long-term business needs. Effectively collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Process Development, Engineering, Supply Chain, and network partners to drive continuous and sustained improvement.

Lead and support regulatory inspections for areas of responsibility, including preparation of inspection playbooks, response strategy, and operational readiness. Deliver results in accordance with cGMP, safety, quality, compliance, and financial expectations.

Apply lean principles, operational excellence, strategic thinking, and organizational design to improve department efficiency, agility, and effectiveness. Support business continuity by identifying risks and gaps, developing solutions, and ensuring resilient manufacturing support processes.

Provide exceptional service to the plants and site, while keeping key stakeholders across the global operations network informed during critical activities. What we expect of you We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients.

Basic Qualifications High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Manufacturing & Operations experience OR Associate’s degree and 10 years of Manufacturing & Operations experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of Manufacturing & Operations experience OR Master’s degree and 6 years of Manufacturing & Operations experience OR Doctorate degree and 2 years of Manufacturing & Operations experience In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 2 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources.

Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated leadership experience in a GMP manufacturing environment, preferably in biologics drug substance manufacturing and mammalian cell culture.

Strong understanding of cGMP expectations, deviation management, CAPA, change control, regulatory inspections, and manufacturing documentation. Demonstrated ability to apply Operational Excellence, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement principles to improve performance, reliability, and agility.

Cross-functional experience partnering with Manufacturing, Quality, Process Development, Engineering, Supply Chain, or global network teams. Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Excellent communication skills, executive presence, sense of urgency, and ability to influence across functions and levels. Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, align stakeholders, and lead through ambiguity. Proven ability to develop, coach, and inspire staff while positively advancing team culture and organizational performance.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
