Title and Summary Senior Counsel Overview The Senior Counsel will be a member of the Privacy, AI
- Data Responsibility (PAIR) group, Mastercard’s best-in-class team of privacy and data protection attorneys and professionals. Their role is to support the Services Business & Market Insights (BMI) vertical as a product counsel. The position reports to the Senior Managing Counsel assigned to the Services BMI vertical. - the capability to transform legal requirements into practical operational guardrails:
- Support the development of complex, data-driven products across the entire product lifecycle, including coordination among legal and strategic specialists.
- Draft and negotiate contracts for the sale of Services BMI products in coordination with legal colleagues.
- Advise business stakeholders on understanding and applying layers of regulation and internal rules.
- Advise PAIR colleagues as an expert on Mastercard’s anonymization controls, aggregation techniques
- data storage environments. All About You Education: Juris Doctor required. Experience: 5+ years practicing law with a specialization in privacy, AI, and/or data protection law required, preferably including law firm experience. Knowledge and Skills:
- Use direct, concise, and context-aware writing, presentation technique, and oral communication.
- Work within, and coordinate, cross-functional teams, and communicate with C-suite executives.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Draft and negotiate data processing agreements.
- Apply de-identification techniques and Privacy Enhancing Technologies.
- Ability to explain the significance of legal and reputational risk in business terms.
- Use generative AI prompting and agent orchestration best practices to enhance legal research and contract drafting, and make day-to-day work efficient.
- Have intellectual curiosity and willingness to proactively suggest solutions.
- Know, or be willing to learn, skills unique to the position: card payment processing data flows (including open finance / open banking)
- basic competition, antitrust, and securities law
- advertising technology and data flows, credit reporting / credit bureau regulation
- data analytics techniques and terminology
- data flow diagramming. In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
