The Opportunity The Rates Salesperson is an intermediate-level position responsible for assisting institutional clients in navigating interest rate markets, executing trades, and delivering strategic solutions across government bonds, interest rate derivatives, and structured products.
This role serves as a critical intermediary between clients and Citi's trading desks, combining deep product knowledge with relationship management to maximize client satisfaction and revenue generation. You will work within a collaborative, high-performance environment where your ability to build trust, identify opportunities, and execute with precision will directly impact our franchise growth in one of the world's most dynamic financial markets.
Primary Responsibilities Client Coverage & Relationship Management: On-board, prospect, and cover a portfolio of buy-side clients (asset managers, hedge funds, pension funds, insurance companies) across interest rate products including government bonds, swaps, swaptions, inflation products, and structured solutions; understand client investment strategies, risk appetites, and trading objectives to deliver tailored solutions Sales Execution & Revenue Generation: Implement and refine sales and marketing strategies with defined priorities and market penetration goals; leverage existing contact networks to introduce Citi's rates offering, convert prospects, and increase wallet share across cash and derivative products Trade Facilitation & Market Intelligence: Act as intermediary between clients and trading desks to execute transactions efficiently; provide real-time market colour, pricing, liquidity insights, and trade ideas; communicate client flow and positioning to internal stakeholders to optimize execution quality Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with structuring, trading, legal, credit, risk, and research teams to position Citi strategically and close complex transactions; collaborate with salespeople across asset classes and geographies to leverage Citi's global franchise and source relevant opportunities Governance, Risk & Compliance: Lead strong governance and controls in all client interactions; work in close partnership with Legal, Compliance, Market Risk, Credit Risk, Audit, and Finance to ensure appropriate infrastructure; appropriately assess risk/reward when making business decisions with particular consideration for the firm's reputation Regulatory Adherence: Be familiar with and adhere to Citi's Code of Conduct and the Plan of Supervision for Global Markets and Securities Services; obtain and maintain all required registrations/licenses (Series 3, 7, 55, 63) within appropriate timeframes; adhere to all policies and procedures as defined by your role What We Need from You Relevant Experience: E xperience in a client-facing role within fixed income markets, rates sales, rates trading, or related buy-side/sell-side functions; demonstrated experience working with institutional investors Product & Market Knowledge: Strong understanding of interest rate products including government bonds, interest rate swaps, options, inflation-linked securities, and structured derivatives; familiarity with market drivers, central bank policy, yield curve dynamics, and macro themes Sales & Relationship Skills: Proven track record in sales or business development within financial services; ability to build and maintain broad client relationships; demonstrated interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills Communication & Collaboration: Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication; ability to articulate complex ideas to diverse audiences; strong team player with ability to work across functions and geographies Licensing & Regulatory Readiness: Must have or be able to obtain required licenses including Series 3, 7, 55, and 63; willingness to undergo Fit and Proper assessment under the FCA/PRA Certification Regime Education: Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related field What Citi Can Offer You By joining Citi London, you will not only be part of a business casual workplace with a hybrid working model (up to 2 days working at home per week), but also receive a competitive base salary (which is annually reviewed), and enjoy a whole host of additional benefits such as: 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) A discretional annual performance related bonus Private Medical Care & Life Insurance Employee Assistance Program Pension Plan Paid Parental Leave Special discounts for employees, family, and friends Access to an array of learning and development resources Alongside these benefits Citi is committed to ensuring our workplace is where everyone feels comfortable coming to work as their whole self, every day.
