A role on the Litigation and Investigations team means developing and executing the legal strategies that achieve the best possible outcomes for Target. By engaging and directing internal and external partners, collecting and analyzing all relevant information and providing excellent advice and support to team members, your work will positively impact all of Target.

Here, you’ll be a key player on the team that navigates complex business disputes and serves business partners across the enterprise. As a Director Counsel, Litigation and Investigations , you will work on a wide variety of litigation and investigation related matters in state and federal courts nationwide, including but not limited to: commercial, general liability, products liability, real estate, financial services, and class actions.

You will use your legal acumen to assess and engage a inclusive panel of outside counsel and advise business leaders on litigation strategy. You will create and provide both written and in-person training and guidance and will work collaboratively with an internal team of experienced paralegals and business and legal partners to support and deliver optimal outcomes on behalf of Target.

Job duties may change at any time due to business needs . About you: J.D. degree from an accredited law school Admitted or eligible for admission to the Minnesota bar 5+ years of legal experience in a law firm, in-house, or government capacity, including experience managing disputes, pre-litigation matters, legal risk assessments, active litigation, and all aspects of the litigation lifecycle Ability to facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport and collaborate effectively, internally and externally, across all levels of an organization Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to leverage data to influence decisions and distill complex or ambiguous issues into concise and actionable advice Ability to develop effective and collaborative relationships with key business leaders in order to independently drive accountability, instill confidence, and influence outcomes across business functions Highly organized, with the ability to adapt, prioritize and successfully manage multiple tasks or projects in response to changing or competing priorities Ability to apply discretion and sensitivity while working with confidential information Ability to develop effective written and verbal communications and presentations for all levels of leadership; comfort presenting information to large groups across all levels of the organization Demonstrated strategic skills with the ability to assess and challenge the current state, develop short and long term strategies, apply creative problem solving, and project manage initiatives from inception through implementation Comfortable making specific, fact-based recommendations in ambiguous situations Ability to navigate and learn new and emerging business, regulatory, and legal concepts Experience with a wide variety of litigation in state and federal courts preferred This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs.

A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
