Disney Theatrical Group (DTG) is seeking Teaching Artists (TAs) to join its Education & Audience Engagement team.
DTG TAs are professional theatre artists and educators who facilitate workshops, musical theater residencies, and professional development seminars for learners of all ages and backgrounds. DTG’s current educational programming supports its Broadway shows, national tours, and its catalogue of educational musicals created expressly for young performers.
Candidates should have a passion for engaging others in the artistry and life lessons of theatre-making. DTG is specifically looking to hire TAs with experience directing, music directing, and/or choreographing productions with young people.
This is a part-time, recurring position. Work fluctuates based on season and TA availability. TA responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Teaching school staff the artistic roles of musical production (Director, Choreographer, Music Director, or Stage Manager); first by modeling, then by team-teaching, and finally through coaching with public elementary and middle school students through the Disney Musicals in Schools program.
We are specifically seeking teaching artists who can guide educators on two or more of these roles, with required capacity to teach either music or dance. Team teaching musical theater workshops using a provided curriculum based on our Broadway shows for groups of all ages from around the world.
Workshops include: Movement & Music, Spotlight on Singing, Spotlight on Dancing, Business of Show Business, and the Art of Puppetry. Facilitating talkbacks (post-show Q&As with cast and crew) for audiences at The Lion King , Aladdin, and any future Disney on Broadway shows.
Collaborating with Education & Audience Engagement staff and fellow TAs to develop curriculum and educational resources available to a global audience. Facilitating or supporting Audience Engagement events and activations throughout the city.
Facilitating professional development workshops for classroom teachers and school administrators. Participating in ongoing professional development with the Teaching Artist ensemble. Required Qualifications: 3+ years of experience working as a Teaching Artist or Classroom Teacher in NYC public schools, or another large school system Demonstrated skills and professional experience in musical theatre, including: choreography, directing, music direction, or stage management with students or adults.
For this hiring cycle we are specifically looking for multi-disciplinary artists with skills in music directing and/or choreography. Experience working with a wide variety of populations and ages Strong classroom management skills Willingness to travel to schools across NYC, including all boroughs Ability to work weekdays (in school or afterschool) with occasional nights and weekends Excellent collaborative skills; willing and able to team-teach with fellow TAs Strong time-management skills and dedication to established work commitments Exceptional customer service skills and commitment to upholding the Disney brand with integrity Preferred Qualifications: 3+ years of experience working as an expert in your artistic discipline Experience working on the production team of a musical with children or adults An undergraduate or advanced degree in Theatre, Music, Dance, Education, Educational Theatre, Applied Theatre, or another related field Experience working with students with disabilities Experience working with English Language Learners Ability to converse in languages other than English For consideration, candidates should provide: A resume detailing your experience as an artist and educator.

If you are invited to audition, you will also be asked to facilitate a small portion of a musical theater rehearsal highlighting your strengths in your primary discipline.

The pay rate for this role in New York is $42.43 to $90.17 per hour. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. Select benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, such as medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
