We are seeking a dedicated Frontend Engineer to build intuitive, high-performance user interfaces that bring Cisco's solutions to life.

This role is primarily focused on frontend/UI development: designing, implementing, testing, and improving customer-facing web applications that help users complete complex workflows with confidence. You will develop software with simplification, accessibility, secure coding, user privacy, and user experience at the core of your work.

You will partner closely with design, product management, backend engineering, QA, and other teams to translate customer and business needs into clean, responsive, accessible, and maintainable web experiences. You will create technical design documentation for the engineering team and contribute to user-facing documentation where needed.

You will debug and address software issues during development and in production systems, bring new ideas for product innovation, and help improve frontend engineering practices across the team. You will be encouraged to use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve your development workflow, accelerate learning, generate and refine code, strengthen tests, improve documentation, and increase day-to-day engineering productivity while maintaining accountability for code quality, security, and correctness. ## What You'll Do - Build and improve frontend features for customer-facing web applications, with emphasis on usability, responsiveness, accessibility, performance, secure coding, and maintainable code. - Develop software that prioritizes simplification, accessibility, and a user-centered approach. - Translate product requirements, UX designs, and technical constraints into clean, functional UI implementations. - Design and implement reusable frontend components using modern JavaScript or TypeScript patterns and frontend frameworks or libraries. - Partner with designers and product managers to clarify user needs, iterate on prototypes, validate interaction patterns, and deliver intuitive interfaces that solve real customer problems. - Collaborate with backend/API engineers to integrate UI features with services, data models, and platform capabilities. - Contribute to straightforward business and customer problems involving product workflows, operations, services, or customer experience. - Analyze information, ask questions, and check for understanding using standard procedures within the job family. - Establish relationships and collaborate effectively with your immediate team and cross-functional partners. - Work on small-to-medium frontend features from technical design through completion. - Apply understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile engineering practices, including requirements analysis, design, coding, unit testing, acceptance testing, and iterative delivery. - Participate in delivery of technical designs and frontend implementation plans with guidance. - Write clean, functional, testable code and unit/component tests with guidance. - Debug, test, and troubleshoot UI behavior across supported browsers, environments, and user workflows. - Assist in code reviews and address code review feedback. - Execute tests for reliability, performance, accessibility, scale, and velocity within your own code. - Apply secure coding principles, protect user privacy, and help review code for compliance with security expectations. - Monitor and triage UI-related incident reports, participate in postmortems, and support production issues as needed. - Develop expertise in one area of the frontend codebase, design system, or product workflow. - Share knowledge from independent learning and emerging frontend best practices with the team. - Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and learning workflows while validating generated output for quality, security, and maintainability. - Estimate work, communicate status, and identify blockers, risks, or delays early. - Collaborate with team members to share learnings and assist in problem solving and resolution. ## Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of related experience, or Master's degree plus 0 years of related experience. - Basic knowledge of software engineering theories, principles, and concepts within a technical discipline. - Exposure to current web development technologies through coursework, internship, project work, or professional experience. - Experience or coursework with HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript, and building user interfaces. ## Preferred Qualifications - Interest in frontend/UI development as a primary area of focus. - Experience with a modern frontend framework or library such as React, Angular, Vue, or similar. - Experience building responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces. - Familiarity with UI/UX design tools such as Figma or Adobe XD and translating design mockups into functional code. - Understanding of API integration, state management, component-based development, reusable UI patterns, frontend build pipelines, or shared design systems. - Experience writing unit, component, integration, or end-to-end tests for web applications. - Interest in using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, explore implementation options, write or refine code, generate tests, debug issues, and improve documentation. - Ability to collaborate with UX design, product management, backend engineering, and QA to deliver user-centered product experiences. - Curiosity about simplifying complex workflows and improving product usability. - Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain implementation tradeoffs, ask clarifying questions, and communicate progress or blockers.
